How do I brew loose leaf tea?

Heat 175 ml of water to 95-100°C. Add 2-3 grams of tea to a teapot and pour the hot water over it. Allow the tea to steep for 2-3 minutes. Strain and enjoy!

How to store to loose leaf tea to retain freshness?

This tea contains delicate herbs that can absorb moisture, increasing the risk of infestation. To preserve the freshness after opening, it's recommended to refrigerate it. Always store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, to ensure optimal quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kashmiri Kahwa and what makes it special?

Kashmiri Kahwa is a traditional spiced green tea originating from the Kashmir Valley, consumed there for centuries as a warming, restorative drink. It is made with whole-leaf green tea combined with saffron, rose petals, cardamom, cinnamon, and almonds, each ingredient chosen for both flavour and function. Unlike regular green tea, Kahwa has a complex, layered character: floral from the rose and saffron, warming from the cardamom and cinnamon, with a smooth green tea base underneath. Chayam's version uses real saffron and dried rose petals, not flavouring or extract, so you get the genuine aroma and character of authentic Kahwa.

What are the benefits of Kashmiri Kahwa?

Kashmiri Kahwa combines the benefits of five distinct ingredients into a single cup. Green tea provides antioxidants, particularly EGCG, which support metabolism, immunity, and cellular health. Saffron is one of the most antioxidant-rich spices in the world, traditionally used to support mood, digestion, and skin health. Cardamom aids digestion, freshens breath, and has antimicrobial properties. Cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar and has anti-inflammatory effects. Rose petals are rich in vitamin C and have calming, skin-supporting properties. Together they make Kashmiri Kahwa one of the most nutritionally complete teas in Chayam's range, and one of the most backed by traditional use.

Does Kashmiri Kahwa help with digestion?

Yes, this is one of its most traditional uses. Cardamom and cinnamon both stimulate digestive enzymes and ease bloating. Green tea supports gut health through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In Kashmir, Kahwa is traditionally served after meals precisely for this reason. A cup after a heavy meal is one of the most effective ways to use it.

When is the best time to drink Kashmiri Kahwa?

It is a naturally versatile tea. In the morning it works as a warming, focused alternative to coffee: the saffron and green tea combination provides a gentle energy lift without jitteriness. After meals it supports digestion beautifully. In winter or cold weather it is particularly comforting, the cinnamon and cardamom create real warmth from within. It is also one of the best teas to serve to guests, which is how it has been used in Kashmiri hospitality for generations.

Does Kashmiri Kahwa contain caffeine?

Yes, it contains a moderate amount of caffeine from the green tea base, roughly 25 to 35mg per cup, significantly less than coffee. The L-theanine naturally present in green tea softens the caffeine effect, giving a calm, sustained focus rather than a sharp spike. It is best avoided close to bedtime but is comfortable to drink through the morning and afternoon.

Is Kashmiri Kahwa good as a gift?

It is one of the most gifted teas in Chayam's range, and for good reason. The saffron and rose petal ingredients give it a premium, distinctive quality that stands out from standard green teas. The gold tin packaging presents well, and the story behind the tea rooted in Kashmiri culture and hospitality gives a gift-giver something to say about it. It works for festivals, weddings, birthdays, and corporate gifting equally well.

Is Kashmiri Kahwa safe for people with nut allergies?

No, Kashmiri Kahwa contains almonds and should be avoided by anyone with a nut allergy. If you are unsure about your sensitivity, consult your doctor before trying it. All other Chayam teas in the range are nut-free.

How do I brew Kashmiri Kahwa correctly?

Use 2g or roughly a heaped teaspoon per 175ml of water heated to 80–85°C. Do not use boiling water as it will release tannins, make the green tea base bitter and diminish the delicate saffron aroma. Steep for 3 minutes, strain, and drink. A small amount of honey works beautifully with the saffron and rose notes. For a stronger spice flavour, increase the steeping time to 4 minutes rather than adding more tea. Traditionally Kahwa is served plain or with honey but never with milk.
